Family Practice by Jason Ballenger

Jason Ballenger is a true "Renaissance Man." Aspiring to a career in the medical sciences, he manages to find time between his studies at the University of Georgia and his technician duties at Shoal Creek Animal Clinic for everything from Iron Man competitions to working on his latest comic strip, "Family Practice."

Here are some of Jason's thoughts about his creation...

My original intention when I began drawing the "Family Practice" comic strip was to use human characters to represent comic scenarios in accordance with human medicine. However, working at Shoal Creek I have learned that pets are as much a member of the family as a son or daughter, and so I decided to switch gears and give my characters a more “fuzzy” appearance. The main character, Dr. Barkley, is a compassionate individual with a unique bedside manner. Whether he is tending to the hurt, sick, or just plain "zany" individuals of Willow Creek, he always wishes to provide the best care possible. I hope people will not only laugh at the humor in my comic strip, but see the humor in everyday life through a profession which deals with life itself. It has often been said that laughter is the best medicine. If this is true, then Dr. Barkley has a prescription which can benefit us all.
